1. History of the musicians

More than 35 years ago, Ulli Sieker was one of the founding members of the Band “Bluegrass Express” in Northern Germany. “Bluegrass Express” was one of the first European Bluegrass-Bands and released the first German Bluegrass LP in 1975.
1980 he founded the legendary “Groundspeed”-Band along with Dutch Musicians and played professionally until the early 90ies. Besides this since 1977 Ulli played on various albums as a session-fiddle- and mandolin-player.

Matthias started performing at the age of 15 as a solo-guitar player, playing finger style Ragtime- and American-Folk-Guitar in Pubs and Clubs. He joined “Bluegrass Express” as a bass-player and later became the banjo-player of that band. After that Matthias played in different Country- and Rhythm & Blues Bands and formed his own Bluegrass-Band “Willie & the Whoppers” in 1982. This Band played a lot of local gigs and might be known from their successful appearances at the “Neusüdende-Festival” in Northern Germany. By the end of 1986 “Groundspeed” needed a new guitar player and Ulli hired Matthias who joined the band and started touring professionally in early 1987.

“Groundspeed”-released a couple of LPs and CDs and played numerous Tours, TV-and Radio shows etc. throughout western and eastern Europe and the United States of America, including Bean Blossom, Branson, IBMA, Nashville FanFest and many more.
In 1996 Matthias and Ulli formed the “Looping Brothers”, a Bluegrass Duet in the Tradition of the old Brother-Duets. Local gigs 3 tours of Scotland and Ireland and 3 tours of the U.S. followed.

In 2011 bass player Ralf Strotmann joined the band. Ralf is an experienced musician who played drums and percussion in several groups from Pop to Blues and Jazz. He then picked up the bass and got interested in playing Folk and Bluegrass music. Ralf provides the steady beat in slow ballads as well as in breakdowns at breakneck speed.
